Plaque is a film bacterium that forms on your teeth and gums after eating foods that produce acids. Our dental hygienist will remove this your teeth during your cleaning and scaling appointment.

If plaque remains on your teeth for a long time, the tooth may start to decay or damage. This can lead to cavities, allowing the bacteria to ‘eat away’ the surfaces of your teeth and gums. Plaque can also lead to gum irritation, soreness, and redness. Sometimes your gums may begin to bleed. This gradual degeneration can often cause gums to pull away from teeth. This condition is called receding gums. Long-term plaque can lead to serious problems. The bacteria can also form pockets of disease around tooth structures that will eventually destroy the bone beneath the tooth. You can prevent all these. Visit our dentist on a regular basis to ensure your oral and overall health.

Bad Breath Treatment

Bad breath, or halitosis, can be embarrassing and in some cases may even cause anxiety and affect social activities and communications. Store shelves are overflowing with gum, mints, mouthwashes and other products designed to fight bad breath. But many of these products are only temporary measures because they don’t address the cause of the problem.

Certain foods, health conditions and habits are among the causes of bad breath. In many cases, you can improve bad breath with consistent proper dental hygiene. If simple self-care techniques don’t solve the problem, see our dentist be sure a more serious condition isn’t causing your bad breath.

Bad breath odors vary, depending on the source of it. Some people worry too much about their breath even though they have little or no mouth odor, while others have bad breath and don’t know it. Because it’s difficult to assess how your own breath smells, ask a close friend or relative to check your breath odor.

If you have bad breath, and it is not resolved by your lifestyle changes, such as brushing your teeth and tongue after eating, using dental floss, and drinking plenty of water, come and visit our dentist. If our dentist suspects a more serious condition is causing your bad breath, he may refer you to a physician to find the cause of the odor.

Tooth Extractions

The most common type of extraction offered at our clinics is wisdom teeth removal. In most cases, wisdom teeth will grow in an uncomfortable way that may add pressure to the other teeth causing pain. In most cases for orthodontic alignment, it is suggested to remove the wisdom teeth to avoid complication with treatment.

In other situations, the dentist may suggest extraction if there is deep decay in a tooth or a serious infection has occurred, that cannot be healed.

Sealants

Permanent molars or back teeth are the teeth most commonly benefited from sealants. Sealants are a plastic coating that the dentist applies on your molar teeth to protects the chewing surfaces of the tooth from decay and damage. This procedure is quick and easy with results that can last up to 10 years. Most commonly, children in their early teens are suggested for sealants because the effects are preventive and will be more beneficial in the long run. However, anyone is a candidate for sealants.

Restorations (Tooth Fillings)

The purpose of a filling is to restore a tooth that was damaged by decay. During the procedure, the decay or damage part of the tooth is removed and the tooth is cleaned and prepped for the filling material. Getting a filling done will also prevent against further decay. There are many different types of material that are used: gold, amalgam(silver color), porcelain and composite. The composite resin material is tooth colored and helps the filling no to be seen. many clients refer to us to change old silver fillings with composite tooth-color filling to have a more beautiful smile.

Treat Teeth grinding

If you grind your teeth, this article is for you.

The old fashioned method of treating grinding or bruxism is to cover the teeth with a nightguard to protect them from the strong forces caused by grinding, which causes teeth to crack, break, and slowly wear the teeth away.

However, the newest research shows that the brain begins the grinding response every time you stop breathing at night. The grinding motion pushes the jaw forward, reopening your airway, allowing you to breathe again.

This evidence shows that teeth grinding (bruxism) is a sign for sleep apnea. Sleep apnea is a condition that a person stops breathing in a normal pattern, and as a result, lacks air and oxygen.

So while your night guard might protect your teeth at night, it’s at the very best a bandaid solution for the symptom of a deeply serious underlying condition.

A night guard could also be interfering with a vital response that you use every night to prevent yourself from suffocating.

Treating sleep-disordered breathing can protect your teeth by eliminating your need to grind, but more importantly, will allow your brain and body to properly repair themselves with uninterrupted sleep.

So, if you’re grinding your teeth, you should be concerned with two things:

1. Protecting your teeth from the strong vertical forces of grinding, which can cause them to break, crack, become sensitive, cause you pain, and prematurely yellow and cause your gums to recede.

2. That you should be tested for sleep apnea, a potentially life-threatening condition.

A night guard can make bruxism worse because it can prevent you from being able to push out your lower jaw, thereby preventing the airway from opening and making your sleep apnea even worse, effectively choking you and causing you to need to grind harder and more often.

So, what do teeth have to do with sleep apnea?

Every time you put something into the mouth before you go to sleep, you reposition how the jaw, tongue, and soft palette all interact at the back of the airway, determining the way you are able to breathe and sleep at night.

You deserve and should expect a dentist who considers sleep apnea if you grind your teeth.
